These are solid plates with a decent sized lip on the side (the modern style of plate). THey have a smooth finish and feel like a mixture of natural and smooth plastic. They don't appear to break easily and feel very solid.We switched from paper plates to save money to bamboo plates and bowls I found at Target. For months they were out of stock and I wanted to buy more than just a couple bowls and plates so I searched here and chose the light blue four bowls.I like that they are wheat, lightweight and no smell to them, plus microwaveable as I had purchased a few bowls from the arboretum that are peacock bowls but not able to use in microwave.We eat a lot of the pre cooked meals from trader joe's that only needs to be heated up for a few minutes. The lasagna is a favorite, but not having a dishwasher and trying to scrub the plate to remove the tomato sauce residue did not work.I even tried a few of the Mr clean sponges but they would not come clean, so tossed out two of them. What I liked compared to the bamboo bowls is that these are not as deep and not hot to touch coming out of the microwave, but these are also a few dollars more and did not last as long.Good thing the bamboo plates and bowls are back at Target, they cost $3-4 each.These are still good for toast and sandwiches.I bought the plates to use for my family. We use them everyday and love them. They even dry in the dishwasher.I highly recommend them!We were using gobs of paper plates for carry-in breakfasts & at-home lunches during the pandemic. With covid variants and cold weather, eating in continues but the volume of trash is not sustainable. These plates are just as large, lightweight and non-breakable as paper -- and much more sturdy! Microwave and dishwasher-friendly. The raised edges are an added bonus to keep food on the plate if you tend to carry to a different room for casual dining.I had never heard of wheat straw dishes but liked what I read: durable, lightweight, can go in dishwasher and microwave. Fantastic! I don't like cornell because you can't put it in the microwave. My double sets of Fiesta dishes look great but are so heavy--more of an issue as you age. So, I figured I'd give these a try and so far, I like them. They have sort of a weird texture surface but clean up OK. I would like darker colors; currently, they're available only in soft blue and pink which seem like nursery room colors. Perhaps with time, this type of plate will improve in texture and attractiveness but for now, they're very functional for breakfast/lunch meals.These plates are great for outside use and if you have children. We bought our first set for when we grill outside. We bought a second set for outdoor parties. These plates look great, clean up easy, are dishwasher and microwave safe. They are virtually unbreakable. We love them. We added the flatware and cups too!These plates are wonderful- good for the environment, microwave and dishwasher safe, and the curved up edge makes holding them much easier.I recommend these to anyone wanting the above characteristics in a lightweight and functional set of plates.Love this product. No more heavy glass dishes.
